ASSESSMENT STATEMENT

PART A
PREAMBLE

 

The Agreement to establish and maintain an EMF International Register of Professional Engineers is intended to provide a framework for the recognition of experienced professional engineers by responsible bodies to each of the signatory economies. Such bodies will be encouraged to use the Register as a secure benchmark for arrangement which provide mutual recognition or exemption by Professional Engineers in licensing or registration in economies other than that in which they first gained recognition.

 

The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) have participated in the development of the Register. The Board of Engineers, Malaysia has formed a committee to coordinate and monitor the registration of the EMF International Register of Professional Engineers in Malaysia.

 

PART B

EMF INTERNATIONAL REGISTER OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS MONITORING COMMITTEE MALAYSIA

The Committee comprises of a Chairman from BEM with 2 representatives each from BEM, IEM, ACEM and identified Professional Engineers.

PART C

ASSESSMENT MECHANISMS

 

Eligibility for admission to EMF International Register of Professional Engineers Register is limited only to engineers who have completed an accredited or recognised engineering programme, registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and is a corporate member of the IEM who is capable of independent practice. The Route to Professional Engineers, Accredited Qualification for Registration As Graduate Engineers and BEM’s Engineering programme Accreditation Manual are described in the Board of Engineers, Malaysia’s Guidebook (Appendix I).

 

Specific Assessment Requirements For An EMF International Register of Professional Engineers

Specific assessment mechanisms for various engineering disciplines on the Register are described in the Guideline in Appendix I : The Route to An EMF International Register of Professional Engineers.

All applicants for registration shall satisfy the following criteria:-

    1. A Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and/or a Corporate Member with the Institution of Engineers Malaysia;
    2. Seven years experience after graduation in a recognised engineering discipline;
    3. Two years experience in responsible charge of significant work (may be obtained within the seven years experience)
    4. Maintained their continuing professional development at a satisfactory level.

 

Audit of EMF International Register of Professional Engineers

Any person on the EMF International Register of Professional Engineers Register may be subjected to random audit of their current curriculum vitae and records of continuing professional development over the immediate past three years period by an assessor or assessors appointed by the Board.
